Farmers Insurance voluntarily dismissed the lawsuits recently filed against approximately 100 units of local government in Cook County.

Farmers filed suit against a large number of units of local government in Illinois alleging, in part, failure by local governments to provide proper infrastructure based upon global warming, increased rainfall, etc.  Farmers alleges that the local government’s inaction caused it, as an insurer, to pay claims for flood-related and other damages.  Named defendants included municipalities in Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties, as well as several other counties statewide.

The lawsuits filed in other counties have not been dismissed, and there is a possibility that Farmers will re-file their suits against Cook County defendants.
