Motorcycle Rider Gets $1.1 Million for Road Rage Crash

April 6, 2011

Kevin G. Costello, a partner at the law firm of Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle, recently obtained a $1,100,000 settlement on behalf of a client who was severely injured in a collision involving automobiles and a motorcycle.

As the firm’s client attempted to restart his motorcycle, he was struck and thrown almost 100 feet by an automobile traveling at a high speed. The vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old girl who had been engaging in road rage with another vehicle that was traveling in the same direction. The second vehicle was driven by her boyfriend, and both vehicles had been continuously passing each other and making sudden stops. The drivers of the two vehicles were convicted of reckless driving.

The client represented by Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle sustained many significant injuries, including a separated shoulder and multiple torn ligaments in both knees. The client spent nearly three months in a nursing home for rehabilitation and missed more than six months of work. Under the terms of the out-of-court settlement, the female driver’s insurance company paid $1 million and her boyfriend’s insurance company paid $100,000, his full available policy limits.

Costello has tried more than 250 cases to judgment, including more than 50 trial verdicts primarily involving personal injury plaintiff lawsuits. The Cook County Jury Verdict Reporter recognized him in 1995 for being among the top 10 attorneys for achieving jury verdicts in Cook County the previous year. Costello also has litigated matters in McHenry, Lake, Kane and Will counties. Since 2002, Costello has practiced law in Crystal Lake at Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle, the largest law firm in McHenry County.
